Hazard coming back to Chelsea?

March 5, 2022

Didier Drogba believes Eden Hazard has done enough to earn Chelsea legend status. Eden Hazard, who still plays in his usual Chelsea pads, Chelsea’s Eden Hazard left the club after seven legendary seasons to pursue his childhood dream of playing for Real Madrid under his idol Zinedine Zidane. Eden Hazard made his professional debut for Lille in 2007 and remained at Lille until he signed for Chelsea in 2012. Having completed over 190 appearances and scored 50 goals for Ligue 1 club Lille, Hazard signed for English club Chelsea in June 2012.

Hazard was named Ligue 1 Player of the Year a day after Ligue 1 club Lille won the title, making him the youngest player ever to win the award. In the 2014-15 season, Hazard helped the English club Chelsea win the League Cup and the Premier League and won the FWA Player of the Year and PFA Player of the Year awards. Eden Hazard made 352 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 110 goals and providing 96 assists. On 23 January 2013, Eden Hazard received his first red card as a Blues player in the second leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final against Swansea City after an altercation with a ball boy. He was suspended for three games. The Belgian moved to Real Madrid in 2019 after an impressive seven seasons at Chelsea. In seven Premier League seasons with the Blues at Eden Hazard, he scored 85 goals, provided 54 assists, and created 67 excellent chances.

Philippe Coutinho’s return to the Premier League after a good performance is by no means proof that the former Chelsea player can come back and pick up where he left off. Offering Hazard a way out of Real Madrid is not how this story should end because it has already finished. Adding a former Chelsea player to the past only makes things worse and certainly pushes someone to leave Chelsea to make room. Not surprisingly, the very idea of buying players who really help the team has a limit.

Eden Hazard’s existing contract expired in June 2020, and Chelsea are keen to sign him on a new five-year deal that will make him Chelsea’s highest-paid player. On 4 June 2012, English club Chelsea officially confirmed on their website that the club had agreed on terms with Ligue 1 club Lille for Hazard’s transfer. With Real Madrid planning to buy K. Mbappe and E. Haaland in the following summer transfer window, they will be looking to get rid of Hazard or his salary. If Hazard is not sold to Chelsea in the next window, they can still loan him to Stamford Bridge for a whole season with an option to buy at the end.
